Where is Belize?
Belize is an area of 8,867 square miles on the east coast of Central America along the Caribbean Sea, bordered by Mexico on the north and Guatemala to the west and south. The second-largest barrier reef in the world and the largest in the western hemisphere (185 miles long) and three coral atolls fall within Belize's territory. The country of Belize is approximately the same size as the U.S. State of Massachusetts.
Where is Parrot Cove Lodge located in Belize?
Parrot Cove Lodge is an intimate and casual seaside resort located 1-1/4 miles south of Hopkins, a quiet fishing village on the Caribbean Coast of Belize in the Stann Creek District. The white sandy beach of this area parallels the coastline for miles until interrupted by the Sittee River. In addition, the resort is in close proximity to some of the best dive and snorkeling sites in the world. Parrot Cove Lodge is only a 30 minute boat ride from the Belize Barrier reef and snorkeling opportunities are abundant with several atolls and islands located not far from the mainland. The fascinating thing about a visit to Belize is that you can experience an array of nature experiences from Caribbean sea life, jungles and rain forest, mountains, the Sittee River, wildlife, bird watching, and world-class fishing to cultural Mayan ruins. How to get here.
International carriers that fly into Belize City include American Airlines, Continental Airlines, TACA, U.S. Airways and Delta. Most travelers coming to Belize arrive at Philip Goldson International Airport located nine miles outside Belize City. Once in Belize City guests will need transportation down the coast to Dangriga. Both of the Belizean community airlines (Maya Island Air and Tropic Air) have a variety of daily flights which
is only 20 minutes from Belize City to Dangriga
(costing $54 per person one-way or $108 per person round trip). If you prefer to travel by ground you'll drive 75 to 100 miles depending on your route for approx. 2-1/2 hours. Rental cars or a bus are options as well. Once you arrive in Dangriga, you're a short 15 miles from the resort or a 40 minute drive. Parrot Cove Lodge can make arrangements to pick you up in Dangriga once you arrive. Ground transport from Dangriga to Parrot Cove Lodge costs $25 per person one way. Driving directions from Belize City:
(Note: There will be signs as you drive along the highway) From the Belize City Airport take the Western Highway to Belmopan (the country’s capital). Then take the Hummingbird Highway until you reach the Southern Highway. Take the Southern Highway for about 15 minutes and drive past the village of Silk Grass until you see Hopkins Road on the left side. You will see several signs for different resorts. Travel down Hopkins Road road for approximately 4 miles (2 miles will be dirt road) until you reach Hopkins. Turn right upon entering the village and drive south for 2 miles. Parrot Cove Lodge is located on your left, on the beachside of False Sittee Point. Parrot Cove Lodge is just south of Jaguar Reef Lodge – we are located right next door. Driving time from Belize City is approximately 2.5 hours.

Dining out at neighboring resorts or in Hopkins Village
Although Parrot Cove Lodge has its own restaurant and bar on-site, you may find yourself wishing to explore the area for additional cuisine options as a part of your stay and your desire to get-to-know the area. There are several good dining options along the coast at neighboring resorts open to the public, but reservations are suggested. Some restaurant and bar options are within close walking distance. Feel free to jump on a bicycle provided by our resort and see what you can find. The great thing about travel to Belize is that things are laid back and casual. There's no need to bring your "After Five" attire for dining out. Walk in with your sandals and shorts because you can dress comfortably while you dine out. If you like, we can arrange for a taxi to drive you into Hopkins Village for US $5. There are several local restaurants, cafes & bars in Hopkins where you can try the local cuisine including stew chicken & rice and beans.
